Welcome to our adoption blog

In 2006 Carl and I began thinking about adopting again. Until that time, we were pretty certain we would be a one child family...content to parent our little "bundle of energy", Alex! What changed our minds? Well, basically, we both found ourselves saying, "If I were done with school", or "If we had a little more money in savings", etc, then we would adopt again. We gradually came to the conculsion that we wanted to adopt again...and that we were waiting for everything to be "settled" to begin. So, in December 2006, with the knowledge that International Adoptions from some countries were taking much longer than they have in the past, we decided to formally begin to explore the process again. We happily announced our plans to Alex, who has been hoping for a little brother or sister for a LONG time, and told him..."don't tell anyone yet...we're going to keep it a secret for a little while longer." Of course the next morning at school he told his entire class, his teacher, and the neighbors :)

Anway, this is how we came to the decision to adopt. I'm creating this blog for a few reasons.

1. It is an outlet for me. Everyone who knows me well understands that I can be a wee bit obsessive at times...so knowing that we will adopt but not having much to actively "work on" at this point is very frustrating. This blog gives me something adoption related to "work on" when I don't have documents to gather, and when it's too early to shop!

2. It is a place to update friends and family members on our progress. Those of you who were with us through Alex's adoption understand what a difficult roller coaster ride the process can be. I'd like to share that difficult process with all of you (ha ha). We will keep this blog private in that only friends and family members will be allowed to join (by invitation). We are not secretive...just don't want it to be a totally public blog.

3. It's a journal of our experience that I hope to print and keep for our future child.
